How the solar calculator works
- The SOLA solar calculator will provide you with information about how much your solar energy system could cost you, the net present value (NPV) of the project as well as the internal rate of return (IRR) for your project.
- It will also calculate your annual expected yield from the system, your expected savings and the estimated capital cost of the solar energy system you described.
- The solar calculator uses the radiation average from your closest town, along with your desired power output from the solar system and your latest or average Eskom electricity tariff.
- You can choose whether you would like to use your available roof space or the power you require from the system to calculate the results.
- The results will be emailed to the email address you enter into the solar calculator.
Fill out the form below to find out how much you could be saving from solar. Note that the calculator was developed with large-scale solar PV systems in mind, and therefore will not be accurate if used to calculate residential systems.
*”Planned power” in kW is different to your monthly kWh energy consumption. If you know your monthly kWh consumption but not your power in kW, divide your total kWh by the amount of hours in the month to get a kW value. e.g. 500 kWh/720 hours in a 30 month day = 0.69 kW
