About SOLA

SOLA is a 100% South African, vertically integrated renewable energy infrastructure, generation and storage company.

SOLA specialises in delivering clean energy to corporate clients through Power Purchase Agreements, both on-site and through wheeling. We are building and operating nearly 3 GW of private renewable wheeling projects which we own, and have successfully developed 535 MW of capacity under the public renewable energy program. Our construction team have designed and built over 100 projects across all nine provinces of South Africa, and in Namibia, Mozambique and the Seychelles.

SOLA delivers clean energy to businesses across South Africa using cutting edge generation and energy storage technologies. We help our clients to grow and prosper through the adoption of low cost and reliable renewable energy.

FOUNDED

Nearly two decades pioneering renewables in South Africa

2011

REIPPPP BID WINDOW 1

Awarded projects in Bid Window 1 of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP), helping launch South Africa's utility-scale renewables industry.

2013

FIRST 1MWp+ ROOFTOP SOLAR INSTALLATION

Built South Africa's first 1 MWp+ rooftop solar installation, the largest in the country at the time.

2015

FIRST LARGE-SCALE MICROGRID: ROBBEN ISLAND

Designed and built South Africa's first large-scale microgrid, on Robben Island.

2020

FIRST RENEWABLE WHEELING PROJECT

Closed South Africa's first renewables wheeling project – a 12 MWp solar facility with Amazon as offtaker.

2022

FIRST UTILITY-SCALE WHEELING TO PRIVATE CLIENT

Closed the first utility scale wheeling project to a private client following the lifting of NERSA's licensing requirements – a 256 MWp project supplying Tronox.

2023

FIRST MULTI-BUYER WHEELING PROJECT

Closed the Springbok Project (195 MWp), first utility scale wheeling project with multiple private offtakers.

2025

FIRST VIRTUAL WHEELING AGREEMENT

Completed Africa's first multi-offtaker renewable energy project, which included the continent's first virtual wheeling arrangement, with Vodacom.

2026

FIRST PRIVATE PV & BESS WHEELING PROJECT

Closed South Africa's first private PV and BESS wheeling project (Naos-1), with Sasol and Air Liquide as offtakers.
