Sirius One

Kathu – Northern Cape Province – South Africa

Similar to Adams Two, the Sirius 75MW Solar Project was originated by SOLA  and developed as a greenfield site before partnering with Scatec Solar, a Norwegian Solar IPP with global presence, ahead of Round 4 of the South African Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Program (REIPPPP).

Sirius received Preferred Bidder status in April 2015. After submission and award by REIPPPP, SOLA continued to manage certain critical aspects of the Financial Close process. After the award, significant collaboration with a number of stakeholders and neighbouring farmers to effect a unique shared grid connection was facilitated by SOLA as well as extensive discussions with local rail operator, Transnet, to secure rights to build a road across a railway.

The project uses solar tracking technology and will provide 215 million kWhs of clean energy per annum and create around 1 800 equivalent jobs over its operating life.

Key activities by SOLA:

  • Complete permitting and licensing of project
  • Management of the grid integration design and authorisation process
  • Consultation on design drawings in relation to permits and authorisations
