Selemela Solar Park

Lichtenburg, North West Province, South Africa

The projects are Africa’s biggest corporate renewable energy Power Purchase Agreement awarded to date with a private offtaker, and the largest renewable energy project in South Africa with a Wheeling Agreement.

SOLA completed the construction of two separate 126MWp and 130MWp solar PV wheeling projects outside Lichtenburg in the North West Province in 2023.

Both projects were commissioned in early 2024 and are now providing clean energy to Tronox Mineral Sands via the Eskom Transmission Network through a Wheeling Agreement. Energy is being transmitted to Tronox operations in KwaZulu Natal and the Northern Cape.

The solar PV plants comprise over 390 073 bifacial solar modules on single axis trackers, covering a total area of 430 hectares and generating 593 721 MWh of energy annually. Enough to power over 80 000 households with electricity. The Project will see over 420 760 tons of carbon dioxide emissions being avoided annually.
